Ride for Life Alaska Raises over $90,000 for Colorectal Cancer Screening

The Ride for Life event July 23-24, 2011, was a two-day 125-mile journey from Anchorage to Seward, Alaska that raised over $90,000 for colorectal cancer screening.  The Ride for Life organization provides colorectal cancer screening for low income and underinsured Alaskans through charitable donations, fundraising, and colonoscopies provided at no charge by local gastroenterologists.  "It is a great community event," says Suzanne Boisen, who rode her bike with 139 other volunteers through strong winds, heavy rain and steep terrain.  Mrs. Boisen expresses her appreciation to the Alaska Digestive Center for sponsoring her for this event.

  • "From my first phone call to his office and subsequent video conferencing with Dr. McClendon did I realize that I had got the right Doctor. My interaction with his staff and him were amazing. For a person that is anxious and reluctant to go to doctors, they made me feel at ease."
